Ideas for the Structure of the Book

Brainstorming Ideas for the book:

Size

  1. 8x8 book
  2. Ideal for suitcases

Paper type

  1. 10 pt. v. 15 pt. paper
  2. Sand colored paper to correspond to our drawing of the pond

Coloring

  1. Good to have SHARP contrast in coloring so it’s easier to see
  2. 4 Colors available
  3. Artist working on the pictures

Text

  1. Large text so it’s easier to see
  2. Letters are about an inch thick
  3. Text written in French
  4. Perhaps writing a simple counting story

Images

  1. A variety of images so that if the child doesn’t particularly like one, he or she won’t just toss the book aside
  2. Use familiar images – for example, an image of 4 puppy dogs isn’t going to mean much to them where as seeing 4 people, 4 feet, 4 mangoes would hold significance
  3. A consistent image to show that the number increments each time by one

Sounds

  1. Research what pitches may bother them
  2. Someone saying the word “four” in French
  3. Someone counting to four
  4. Four “beeps”

Touch

  1. Braille lettering or glue on dots
  2. Vibrating/buzzing mechanism (good for deaf and blind students)
  3. Using felt and/or sandpaper so that they can feel the number and how it is
  4. If the last page has 10 stars for night, we can make the stars a certain texture
