Core Staff Services (DT)

  • With partners:
    • Tell the story of why you decided to become a part of the Collaboratory
  • As a group:
    • Who does the Staff Group serve, and why?
    • What do we do to serve our clients?
    • Knowing this ...
      • Describe the Staff Group in a single sentence.
      • How can we work better to find out what they want, what they need, and what would best serve them?
  • Now, let’s specifically talk about your Team:
    • What does your team do, and why? What services does your team offer?
      • How does your team serve the Collaboratory? What is the purpose of your team?
      • Why is your team important to the Collaboratory?
    • What is your vision for your Team this year?

Goals for the Week (SG)

  • Develop friendships and grow in Christ's likeness
    • Support each other as leaders and friends who recognize the value of work and accomplishment
      • Balance of work and play
      • Acknowledge our service to God as well as fellow humans
    • Sustain each other with prayer and encouragement
      • Personal devotions, group prayer and sharing
    • Foster spiritual growth together through conflicts and trials
      • Scheduling and time management issues, interpersonal conflicts, and personal burdens
  • Take a step back to look at the big picture of Core Staff Services.
    • Define who we are, who we are serving, what we do and why.
    • Develop an understanding of the core services of staff, answering the question "What does the Collaboratory need from us?" rather than "What do we want to do?"
    • Understand Staff as a service arm to the Collaboratory.
  • Build unity with the Application Groups.
    • Gain familiarity with Application Group purposes and projects
    • Motivate and encourage our work with constant reminders of their accomplishments
    • Plan for the year ahead by learning what they need
      • Learn to ask relevant questions - purpose, audience, etc
  • Develop a purpose statement for each team
  • Plan for the year ahead
    • Develop list of priorities, goals and projects for team
    • Develop a budget for each team
    • Document plans and procedures on the wiki

Wrap Up (DT)

  • We will meet together as a group at the beginning of each planning session for the next couple of days (Roundtables) to catch each other up on team progress. Group input aids in well-rounded output, so we will be working together to answer each other's questions and help each other out. Coming together and working together as much as possible will also help build friendships and community within our leadership team.  :)
    • After the initial Roundtable meetings at the beginning of each planning session, each team will break off and spend the rest of the time working on their assignments - purpose statements, budgets, documentation, etc.
  • We have a strong leadership team this semester - drawing on both old experience and new blood to prepare for the coming year. So we're going to dive into the planning process and, if things need to be revised or edited throughout the year, that's okay! The important thing is to have a detailed plan in place ASAP. Plans can change and that's fine, but if we have no plan at all, we'll have nothing by which to gauge ourselves, no framework to provide direction or stability. If you need help, don't hesitate to ask for it. Work hard and work together and we'll get through this week without a problem.  :)

Homework (SG)

  • Start thinking about a purpose statement for your team - a single sentence to encapsulate what your team does, who they serve and why they're so awesome! (Besides being part of Staff :))
  • Put semester calendars into Groupwise so we can start planning Roundtables!
  • Update wiki user pages (events attended, training completed, recent photo of you, etc)!
