Welcome to the frequently asked questions page of the Collaboratory wiki! If you haven't been able to find elsewhere, perhaps you can find it here.
The wiki administrators will build this FAQ as questions are asked - which is why you don't see many yet! If you have a new question to ask, please ask it on the FAQ talk page. (You may start a new topic by clicking the "+" at the start of the talk page.) Wiki admin will attempt to answer your question, and if it is a widely applicable question the answer may get posted to this page as well.

General
Q. How do I leave a message on somebody's talk page?
A. Every user has a talk page, where you can communicate with them. It works just like any other page in the wiki- to get to a user's talk page, just visit the user's user page, and click the "discussion" tab. If you're the first person to use this user's talk page, it will be empty, and you can immediately start typing in your message. If you're not the first person, you can use the "edit" button to leave a message, or (better) click the little "+" button next to "edit", which will nicely create a new topic heading along with your message. When you hit "save page", the user will be notified of your post the next time they log in.
Wiki markup
Q. How do I do X in wiki markup?
A. Most questions about how to use wiki markup properly can be answered by reading the basic editing help or Wikipedia's (advanced) editing help. You may also which to look through the help contents for a page relevant to your question. If you cannot find the answer to your question even after looking through the help, please post it on the FAQ talk page.
Article management
Q. Is there a way to delete an unused page?
A. Yes, but only wiki administrators have the ability to delete pages. If you are a wiki administrator, you may delete a page by selecting the "delete" tab at the top of the screen. If you are not a wiki administrator, you will need to contact a wiki Administrator with the location of the page to be deleted and an explanation of why it should be deleted.
Q. How do I tell what namespace a page is in?
A. Namespaces are determined only by the name of the page. You can see what namespace a particular page is in by looking at its name. Pages in the main namespace have no prefix. Pages in other namespaces have prefixes followed by a colon. For a list of prefixes corresponding to various namespaces, please read the namespace help page.
Q. Help, my page is in the wrong namespace! How do I fix it?
A. You may change the namespace a page is in by moving the page. When you move the page, be sure to change the namespace prefix to reference the correct namespace.
