Help:Media
From The Collaboratory
Articles can often be enhanced by links to audio, video, pdf, and other media files. These elements will not be embedded into the article itself (you will never see a video file playing inside a wiki article), but your article can house nicely formatted links to your media.
When you should use non-text media
The technique below can be used to include audio, video, pdf, or any other type of media in an article. As of now, only pdf uploads are enabled.
Since they are typically read-only, pdf files should only be used for complete reports of publishable quality which will never require revisions in the future.
Audio and video files are welcome if they provide useful content to the article. Non-proprietary and widely-accessible formats are preferred over closed formats (e.g. MP3 rather than WMA or WAV for audio, MPG rather than WMV or MOV for video).
How to include media in your articles
First, upload your file using the "Upload file" link in the toolbox on the left, just like you'd upload an image. Let's use the file "Sample pdf.pdf" as an example.
You can create a link to your file with syntax like:
[[Media:Sample pdf.pdf]]
which produces
As with an ordinary link, you can change the linking text:
[[Media:Sample pdf.pdf|My sample Portable Document]]
which produces
You should not try to link to your file using the "Image:" namespace (even though technically this is where your file lives). Doing so produces something like File:Sample pdf.pdf, which usually isn't what you want.
