How to name leaders in documentation
When documenting projects and processes one often needs to include a specific leader or leaders, such as:
Set up a meeting with Dr. Vader and Lindsay Reilly by October 25th.
This style of writing within an organization can provide very tedious work for individuals down the road. If Dr. Vader or Lindsay Reilly should ever leave the Collaboratory, or change positions, the above mention of their names no longer carries any validity! For this reason, Human Resources has created a page listing all leadership positions as filled for the current year. Any mention of a leader's name should now be documented in reference to their title, linking the reader to this Human Resources page. The reader can then see who currently fills the position. Back to our example, the correct way to write the above phrase becomes:
Set up a meeting with [[SF:Office administration/Positions as filled|the Director]] and [[SF:Office administration/Positions as filled|the Manager]] of the Collaboratory by October 25th.
Note the page that exist under Human Resources is titled SF:Office administration/Positions as filled. This may seem a bit tedious at first, but imagine being the person whose job it would be to go back and edit out names that have been gone for many years! If all mention of leaders' names can instead link to this page, Human resources can simply update it once every semester and the whole Wiki is then updated!
