Installing Novell GroupWise

Novell GroupWise allows you to access your email account without going through MCSquare or the Messiah webpages. It is similar to Microsoft Outlook. To access and install Novell GroupWise on your personal computer:

Connected to Messiah Network

Follow these steps if you are connected to Messiah's network.

Filespace Applet

  • Double-click the icon on the desktop called Messiah Filespace
  • Enter your Messiah username and your password.
  • Click Connect. After a couple seconds, a window should appear with your folder inside.
  • If you are in your username folder, go up one level so you are in the home folder
  • Double click and enter the utility folder
  • Double click on the Install Group Wise Client icon
  • Follow the installer prompts (it may take a while for the installer to load)
  • When you are finished working with your files, double-click the "Messiah Filespace" icon again and click Disconnect.

Direct Path

  • Open up a run prompt (Start Menu >> Run)
    • For Vista, the run prompt is the search bar in the start menu
  • Type in the prompt \\MYFILES\home
  • When prompted, enter your Messiah username and password (it may take a while to access your folder)
  • Double click and enter the utility folder
  • Double click on the Install Group Wise Client icon
  • Follow the installer prompts (it may take a while for the installer to load)


Using Proxy

Proxy allows another user or account to access your email account. It requires both accounts to give permission and add the user to proxy for it to work. To set up proxy:

Through Novell GroupWise

Giving Permission

  • Click Tools in the menu bar
  • Select Options from the drop-down menu
  • Double-click the Security icon
  • Click on the Proxy Access tab
  • Type in the name of the person or account to whom you want to give permission for accessing your email and click Add User (Novell will try to auto-complete the name as it is typed)
    • You can also click on the icon next to the input box to access the address book of Messiah College (scroll through the names and double-click on the people you want)
  • Select the users you are granting access and set your permissions (how much you want them to be able to access)
    • Recommended to set read and write for Mail/Phone to allow user to look at and send emails for your account
  • Click OK when done and click close on the options pop-up box

Receiving Permission

  • Click File in the menu bar
  • Select Proxy from the drop-down menu
  • Type in the name of the account you want to access
    • As with giving permission, the icon to the side will let you access the address book of Messiah College
  • Click OK; if that account already gave permission to you, you should now be able to access that email account from yours
    • You can switch between accounts using the drop-down menu labeled Online right above the email structure listing

Through MCSquare Email (Novell WebAccess)

Giving Permission

  • Click Options in the upper right corner
  • Click on the Proxy Access tab in the pop-up
  • Select Add Entry
  • Enter the name of the user or account and set the permissions to grant
    • Click on the Address Book button to search through the address book of Messiah College
  • Click on Save when permissions are set
  • Click Close on the pop-up

Receiving Permission

  • Click on the Proxy button in the upper left menu
  • Enter the name of the user/account you want to access
    • Click on the Address Book button above the input box to search through the address book of Messiah College
  • Close the pop-up when done; if permission was already granted, you should be able to access that account now

Adding an Appointment to Calendar in GroupWise Client

  • Open GroupWise
  • click the arrow next to New Appt

  • On the drop-down menu click "Posted Appointment"
  • Subject of Appointment goes on the "Subject" line

  • Location of Appointment goes on the "Place" Line
  • For a one day appointment (not a recurring appointment): Chose the date using the calendar button

    • -OR-
    • For a recurring appointment:
      • Click on the toolbar Actions > Auto-Date...
      • Choose the recurring dates in the "Dates" tab by clicking on them (making them bold)

      • -OR-
      • Click on the toolbar Actions > Auto-Date...
      • Choose the “Example” tab

      • Choose the start date using the calendar button on the "Start:" line
      • click on the "Occurrences button" and choose "End"
      • Choose the end date using the calendar button on the "End" line
      • Choose all the months the appointment will occur on in the "Months" section.
      • Choose all the days of the week that the appointment will occur on in the "Days of the Week" section
      • Click "OK" when you are finished.
  • Choose the time using the Clock button

  • Choose the Duration using the clock button by the "Duration" line.
    • -OR- Check the "All Day Event" box.
  • Mark whether this event is Free, Tentative, Busy, or Out of Office.
  • Enter a description in the remaining text box.
  • Click the "Post button in the upper left hand corner of the screen to place the even on your calendar.

  • Congratulations! You just added an Appointment to your Groupwise Calendar!

How to Send an Email at a Certain Time

  • Log onto GroupWise on from your desktop.
  • Click New Mail.
  • Click the Send Options tab.
  • Check the Delay delivery box.
  • Choose the date and time of delivery.
  • Go back to Mail tab.
  • Send mail as normal.
