Logging in
Visit http://thecollaboratoryonline.org/database and enter your username and password. Your username is the first letter of your first name followed by your complete last name (this is probably the same as your wiki username).
Changing your password
- You should see a block of links in the left sidebar labeled by your username. Find the link that says My Account and click it.
- Click the Edit button at the top right of the account information block
- Enter a new password in the appropriate box
- Scroll down and hit the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page
Entering your personal information
- Follow the first two steps above: click My Account from the front page, then Edit.
- Below the "Edit" button you just clicked is a new row of buttons. Choose Personal Information.
- Enter the appropriate information
- Click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page
- Choose the Collaboratory Specific Info. button next to "Personal Information"
- Enter the appropriate information
- Click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page
Creating a new contact
WARNING: the third step is very important- your contact information will not create correctly if you don't do it right, and a database administrator will be required to correct your mistake.
- In the left sidebar from the front page, click the link called New Individual.
- Enter as much information as you can
- Before you finish: Expand the Tags and Groups block and check the box next to your contacts group.
- Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page
What if I forgot to check my contacts group?
If you forgot to check your group, then the new contact data will be inaccessible to you, and you will have no way to retrieve it. You also will not be able to create the contact by typing in the information again. If this happens to you, email a collaboratory database administrator (Deborah Tepley or her Student Assistant) with the name of the hidden contact, and they can add the contact manually into your contacts group.
Searching your contacts
Type some or all of a contact's name into the search box at the left to see a list of contacts that match your search. Some things to keep in mind:
- You will only see contact information that you yourself created- other people's contacts will be invisible to you
- Hitting the search button with just a blank search box will show the complete list of your contacts
